Topic: From Concepts and Prototypes Towards Future Integrated Healthcare Ecosystems

Abstract: Global ageing is driving a surge in physical, sensory, and cognitive declines, along with higher rates of chronic disease, while healthcare resources continue to contract. This talk examines how technology and innovation can narrow this widening gap, highlighting the impact of ageing on quality of life, society, and the economy. Professor Chen reviews the state of technology-driven smart healthcare, surveying leading research programs and flagship projects to expose the remaining gaps and barriers to large-scale adoption. He then outlines the vision of an integrated healthcare ecosystem, detailing a framework of enabling technologies, integration methods, and collaboration processes spanning multiple disciplines, sectors, and stakeholders. The session concludes with key research challenges, strategic recommendations, and insights into future directions for delivering accessible, intelligent healthcare solutions.
